a woman who wears black a lot

i found that the play mainly relied on sound to build tension, this mainly includes long period of silence and the occasionally epic scream to cut the silence, these were the moments that i found the audience generally reacted most often to. it did however create a fear in a moment with some fake fog machine and also lots of sounds affects. it managed to make the audience confused as well as scare them in to not knowing what might happen. this would of been harder to do in a book as trying to confuse a reader just causes them to think it’s a not very good writer. i found that the lady in black used many of the Gothic methods of creating fear that we had discussed in the lesson, such as the isolationism of the main character in the old lady’s house, the way the local folks were all silent about the woman’s death, and the fact that all the scary scenes were generally in the dark.

i was orginally planning on reading the picture of dorian gray but i couldn’t find it. so i’ve been reading some short stories by Edgar Allan poe while I’m waiting to get it. they are all quite small about 10 pages and tend to be incredibly descriptive about the surrounding’s. so far i read masque of red death and the fall of the house of usher. but today i finally got my copy of dorian gray so im reading that now and so far its not nearly as obviously Gothic.

Gothic poetry has tends to focus more upon the mental Gothic ideas such as madness rather than the whole scary monster or man actually being there and showing clear danger. it often uses its poetic devices to attempt to show someones mental state. for example in the raven the mans mentality can be shown to be questionable by his continues repetition of himself.
my opinions on The GOTHIC!!!!!!!!!

i personally find the gothic quite good as it tends to be melodramtic and beyond reality which is something i enjoy.
i enjoy the overdramtic way the novels go about telling the story, so far i’ve read ‘the masque of the red death’ which although it is very short and does not really explain the chracters that well but it creates a tension very well in the way it describes the red death and the princes masqurede

the gothic is a genre of literature which apperd in the late 18th century after the french revultion. it is before horror storys and is mainly melodramatic and gory for te time. its primary reading base at the begining was well of lonly women who had nothng really better to do. it was frowned upon, as the only books considerd worthy were the books containing news or facts (exept the bible which was the most popular).ne of the first considerd gothic novels was castle of ortanto which was about demon helmet!.the genre is not really around in modern times and novels which may be considerd gothic are uaslly gatergoised as plain horror. although there are still some modernish gothic novels around such as the wasp factory
